In 24/7 Science for sixth grade, learners encounter a variety of experiences in the physical and biological sciences designed to spark their interests and develop the cognitive skills necessary in today’s world. The program encourages student interaction and cooperation to solve problems, gain the scientific knowledge required to interpret natural phenomena, and use the technology available to them. This course encourages students to develop and test ideas as they work to solve problems. Acquiring information and developing concepts through reading and listening are also important, as is communicating information clearly in writing and orally.
In 24/7 Economics, students will deepen their understanding of the economic problems and institutions of the nation and the world in which they live. Students will practice life application skills such as budgeting, time management, and college & career preparation in order to grasp an understanding of scarcity and opportunity costs. They will also use charts, graphs, and tables to examine the laws of supply and demand.
24/7 Civics is an inquiry into the importance of American liberty, and yes, order, this course explores the foundations of republican government. It considers the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and explores the fundamental principles of a free economy without which there is no free society. It seeks, in sum, to instill in students the proper spirit of patriotism upon which self-government depends. This course takes a deep look into early American political thought.
World history is a subject that embraces all humanity, not just individual nations, ethnic groups, or civilizations. It emphasizes three rationales for investigating the human past; Knowing who we are, Preparing to live in the world, Attaining cultural literacy on a world scale.
The goal of the 24/7 Middle School social studies course is to build upon the curiosity and enthusiasm that characterizes middle school students as learners. In doing so we hope to provide experiences that will promote their ability to think critically and creatively, including their ability to solve authentic, complex, non-standard, cross- disciplinary problems. Our aim is to provide opportunities for students to develop the intellectual, technological, social and participatory skills needed to excel in society so that they may become effective global citizens in an interdependent world.
